Food and Snacks

1) LUNCH – Please provide a good, hearty lunch every day—your children get very hungry. Lunch starts promptly at noon. If you do not provide a drink for your child, we will give him/her water. Please make sure all food is in a closed and sealed container or Ziploc bag to help us control ants.

2) SNACK – Parents are required to provide a snack on a rotating schedule. PLEASE CHECK THE CALENDAR IN YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM AT THE BEGINNING OF EVERY MONTH TO SEE WHEN YOUR SNACK DAY IS SCHEDULED. If you are unable to provide snack on your scheduled day, please let the teacher know as soon as possible so they can attempt to re-schedule you.

Let your child choose the snack—it is his/her special day. We sing to each snack person and thank them for providing the nutritious food.

Snack must be at school by 9:30 a.m. in order to have adequate time to prepare it. Tell us upon enrollment about any allergies or food needs specific to your child.  If you forget your snack day, please bring us non-perishable food to stock the shelves.

***PLAYSCHOOL OF THE ARTS FOR KIDS IS A NUT-FREE SCHOOL. PLEASE DO NOT PACK NUTS IN YOUR CHILD’S LUNCH OR FOR SNACK.***

Snack is served at 10:30 a.m.

Toddler parents bring snack for the toddler class (around 12-16 people) once or twice a month. Examples are fruit, raw vegetables, crackers, yogurt, cheese, soup, raisins, etc.

Rester and Prep Class parents provide snacks every month for the rest of the school (about 25 kids).

Below are some recommended snack ideas, but families are encouraged to get creative with their child in snack preparation.

Fruits/Vegetables
Fruit – sliced apples, bananas, quartered oranges, grapes, watermelon, berries
Veggies – baby carrots, sliced cucumbers, green beans

Carbohydrates
Crackers, popcorn, muffins, rolls

Protein
Turkey/ham slices, cheese slices or sticks, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt

What Else to Bring

Please send your child to school in seasonally appropriate clothing. We spend as much time outdoors as possible all year-round, so make sure your child is dressed for outside play. Please provide two changes of seasonally appropriate clothing for your child’s cubbie.

Toddler Parents – If your child is still in diapers or pull-ups, please bring a supply of them and wipes. We will leave a note in your child’s cubbie when you need to restock.

Toddlers may bring one stuffed animal or lovey to school if they need it for security or to sleep. Parents of Resters and Prep Classers, please leave toys at home unless you are bringing them for a show and tell circle.

All students must have nap mats or sleeping bag, blanket, and pillow (if necessary) for nap time. We will send these home with you every few weeks for washing, but you are welcome to take them home for washing any time you feel it’s necessary.
